Summer Lunch Program Serves Their Final Meal For 2017

Sheldon, Iowa — With the start of the new school year coming next Wednesday, the Sheldon Summer Lunch Program, which provides a nutritious meal in a safe environment for Sheldon children throughout the summer months, served their last meal of the year on Friday.

Program coordinator Katricia Meendering says that the final meal of the year featured a special theme.

Meendering says participation in the Summer Lunch Program has grown consistently year after year.

She says the goal of the program, from its very beginning, was to provide a safe place and a nutritious meal to kids who might not otherwise get one.

Meendering says the program is staffed by volunteers and supported by donations, and no one is ever charged for their meal.

She says she is thankful to everyone who makes the Summer Lunch Program successful.

The Sheldon Summer Lunch Program operates from the end of one school year to the beginning of the next, and is housed in a central Sheldon location, the basement of the United Methodist Church.
