Sheldon, Iowa – The Sheldon Public Library has always hosted a fun, interactive summer reading program, and this year promises to be no different. There will still be activities, stories, and coding projects, but more options will be available for kids this year.
“Imagine Your Story” will focus on the “mythic realm of Sheldon,” and encourage kids get out and explore their surroundings. This year’s program is all about fairy tales, folk tales, and exploration.
The program officially kicked off Monday, June 1st and will run through Friday, July 17th. Children can register online at https://www.sheldon.lib.ia.us/childrens/summer-reading or by calling the library at 712-324-2442.
Annie McCabe tells us about a summer-long way to stay active and involve the community.
As above, “One of the programs that have started now, is it’s kind of a scavenger/bingo hybrid, where in peoples’ homes and businesses around Sheldon there are pictures of mythical creatures. And you can pick up a bingo card from us or you can download one off the library’s website, and then you just go out and see what you see! And you have all summer to do it, so it’s just a fun kind of way to get the community involved.”
There are also ways for kids to earn special badges of the realm.
As above, “There are a ton of other challenges where you can earn Badges of the Realm. Things like picking up litter, or sending someone mail, or there’s a lot of things like that.”
The weekly Choose your Own Adventure story, which Annie tells us a little about, will be aired on KIWA FM 105.3 each Wednesday morning at 10:05 am. The recorded story, weekly artwork, and script for the story can all be found on KIWA’s Community Calendar by following this link.
As above, “We have teachers from town writing a chapter about the Grand Librarian and where she goes every week and then at the end of the week there will be three options, and then we’re gonna have the kinds in town vote and decide what she’s going to do next. The first one will come out at KIWA and then here at the library this Wednesday, and then you can vote through Friday. And then every week we’ll have another chapter for seven weeks.”
