Thousands Expected At Iowa Great Lakes Next Weekend

Dickinson County, Iowa — Thousands of people are expected to descend upon the Iowa Great Lakes region next weekend for the 43rd Annual University of Okoboji Winter Games.

Festivities get underway Thursday with a few evening activities. Friday’s activities will include the Winter Games Kite Festival, the Indoor Pickleball Tournament, Axe Throwing and Musical Entertainment.

Saturday will be the big day of the 2023 Winter Games. The day begins with a Cribbage Tournament, as well as the 5K Fun Run Check-In and On-Site Registration, both at 8:00 am. Other activities include the continuation of the Okoboji Winter Games Kite Festival, Quad/Motorcycle Studded Ice Race Shootout, “Strut Your Mutt” Dog Show, the Polar Plunge, Keg Toss Competition on the Ice, a Fireworks Extravaganza and Burning of the Greens, as well as multiple choices for musical entertainment throughout the day and evening.

The festivities wrap up Sunday with such activities as the Okoboji Winter Games Kite Festival, an Indoor Pickleball Tournament, Dad’s Belgian Waffle Breakfast and more.

Unemployment rate drops in April

The April unemployment rate dropped to two-point-eight percent compared to two-point-nine percent in March. Iowa Workforce Development director, Beth Townsend, says
