Three Fire Departments Extinguish Hay, Shed Fire

Ireton, Iowa — Three fire departments worked together to put out a blaze near Ireton on Tuesday.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that their 911 center received a call in the 9 a.m. hour about a structure fire at 2128 440th Street, four and a half miles northwest of Ireton.

When they got there, the fire department found a hay shed was burning. Responding fire departments were able to extinguish the fire and prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings on the property.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities report that the cause of the fire is believed to be sparks from a fire in a nearby burn pit that ignited hay that was stored in the shed.

The Hawarden and Sioux Center Fire Departments, the Ireton Ambulance Squad and the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Ireton Fire Department at the fire.
