Thursday’s Blood Drive Was A Success

Sheldon, Iowa – On Thursday, the Siouxland Community Blood Bank and KIWA Radio teamed up for “Life of the Party” blood drive, with the Bloodmobile making a stop at the KIWA Studios.

Ken Versteeg is Executive Director of the Siouxland Community Blood Bank, and he says the blood drive was a great success.

(as said) “It was a great turnout. a lot of people came out to give blood, and support the community’s blood supply. We actually had 38 people come out, and we were able to collect 35 units of blood which saves up to 115 lives.”

Versteeg says that a person who donates has the potential to save up to three other people’s lives with just one donation.

(as said)“Because we take it back to the hospital and we process it in platelets, plasma, and red blood cells, and those three components can go to three individuals.”

Versteeg took opportunity to thank everyone who donated during Thursday’s event.

(as said) “(we) Wanna thank all of the listeners and residents of the Sheldon area, for coming out and giving because without that support we’re not able to do what we need to do at the hospitals. we’re grateful for everyone coming out and wanting to make a difference.”

It should be known that the Siouxland Community Blood Bank is the sole provider of blood and blood-related products to Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon, as well as 33 other area hospitals.
