Northwest Iowa — There were fewer positive COVID-19 test results in the four-county area of Lyon, Sioux, Osceola and O’Brien counties in the past seven days, according to information from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Sioux County reports 81 positive test results in the past seven days, a number which is 29 FEWER than the previous week. O’Brien County reports 53 new positives, a number that remained constant when compared to the previous week’s numbers. Lyon County had 39 new positive test results in the past seven days, compared to 38 the previous week. Osceola County had 14 positive tests, compared to just seven during the previous week. The four-county area, as a whole, reported 21 FEWER positives than the previous seven-day reporting period.
No additional COVID-related deaths were reported in the four-county area during the past week. So the total remains at 199 deaths; 77 in Sioux County, 62 in O’Brien County, 42 in Lyon County and 18 in Osceola County since the pandemic began last year.
Adult COVID-19 vaccination rates continue to inch upward, with 60.6% of O’Brien County adults now reported as fully vaccinated, up from 60.3% last week. Osceola County has seen 54.2% of it’s adult population be fully vaccinated, up from 53.8% in last week’s report. Sioux County has the third highest adult vaccination rate in the four-county area at 51.8%, which is up from 51.4% a week ago. And Lyon County reports 51.3% of their adult population has taken the poke, up from 51.0% in last week’s report.
Buena Vista County, here in northwest Iowa, still has the highest percentage of vaccinated adults, at 80.4%, up from 79.6% in last week’s report. And, Davis County, in far southeast Iowa, still has the lowest percentage of fully vaccinated adults, at 46.8%. That’s up from 46.4% one week ago.
Officials continue to say that becoming fully vaccinated is the best way to stop the spread of COVID-19.
