Northwest Iowa — There is normally an uptick in the number of car vs deer traffic crashes this time each year. More deer are on the move as farmers harvest their crops, taking away more and more of the cover where deer reside.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Nick Erdmann says that while attempting to avoid any kind of collision is instinctive, trying to dodge a deer is a very bad, very dangerous idea.
Erdmann reminds us that deer are pack animals and when you see one you can be fairly certain there are others with it.
If you do hit a deer, Trooper Erdmann talks about what comes next.
He cautions that $1500 isn’t very much damage, and he says if your car has even a small dent it has most likely sustained more than $1500 in damage.
