Trooper Erdmann Talks Harvest-Season Traffic Safety

Northwest Iowa — With this year’s late harvest area farmers are going to be going even harder and faster than normal to get the crop out of the fields before the first killing frost, and Iowa State Trooper Nick Erdmann says both farmers and motorists need to pay special attention to try and avoid the collisions that happen each year during the harvest.

Trooper Erdmann tells us about the biggest things farmers can do to avoid collisions.

Erdmann says many crashes happen when the farm implements turn into a field drive, or turn at an intersection.

He says motorists should expect your trip to take a little longer this season, because if you come up behind an implement on the road, it may take you a little extra time to safely pass the machinery.

Trooper Erdmann says you can expect to encounter implements on pretty much any roadway in northwest Iowa, including the four-lane divided Highway 60.
