Sioux County, Iowa — Earlier this year, the Iowa State Patrol, in conjunction with Sioux County law enforcement agencies, conducted a special enforcement project along Highways 18 and 75 in Sioux County in an effort to bring down the number of traffic crashes in those areas.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Kevin Krull says the Patrol conducted a similar enforcement effort last week in the same area.
Krull says last week’s enforcement effort resulted in quite a few citations being issued.
Krull says phone use is a contributing factor in motorists exceeding the speed limit. He says that while it is legal for adults to talk on the phone while they drive, it’s not a terribly good idea.
He says there are other things drivers need to pay attention to in order to reduce the number of crashes on Iowa’s roadways.
Krull advises you to slow down, since he says speeding won’t get you to your destination sooner…especially if you get pulled over.
Trooper Krull says if you’re running late, call ahead before you leave. When you’re on the road, ignore your phone, watch your speed and obey all traffic signs. That way you can not only get to your destination alive, but also avoid seeing those red and blue lights flashing in your rear-view mirror.
