Supervisors Appoint New Conservation Board Member To Replace Member & County Supervisor Who Is Moving Out Of The County

O’Brien County, Iowa — When the O’Brien County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday morning (August 24th), they voted to appoint Daniel A. Verrips to the O’Brien County Conservation Board to replace Sherri Bootsma, who has resigned because she will be moving out of O’Brien County.

Bootsma is also a member of the O’Brien County Board of Supervisors, a position she’ll have to resign when her move from the county takes place.

O’Brien County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Barb Rohwer says Bootsma will be leaving the County sometime in the next couple of months, and there are two ways her unexpired term representing District 1 can be filled

The second method of replacement becomes a little more involved.

Rohwer says there is also a way to get your name on the ballot without being nominated by one of the parties.

She says that whomever runs to fill Bootsma’s position will need to live in District 1, which covers a large part of northeastern O’Brien County, but everyone in the County casts a vote to fill the seat.

In other action at Tuesday’s meeting, the Supervisors adopted a resolution approving a $7,575.50 appropriation to serve as the County’s matching funds as part of the Hartley Pool Project for the City of Hartley’s application to the State of Iowa Community Attraction and Tourism Grant application.
