Two Area Students Receive Farm Bureau Federation Scholarships

Northwest Iowa — Two area teens are among 54 graduating seniors or students currently enrolled in their college or university to receive scholarships from the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation (IFBF).

These one-thousand-dollar scholarship winners, the next generation of leaders in agriculture, will study a variety of areas ranging from animal science and genetics to agriculture business and agriculture education, according to the IFBF.

The two recipients from the KIWA listening area are: Anne Rosgaard, the daughter of Joel and Jean Rosgaard of Rock Valley, who will be attending Dordt College in Sioux Center; and Alex McDougall, the daughter of John and Kim McDougall of Melvin, who will be attending Iowa State University. Both are first-time recipients of the IFBF scholarships. Students are eligible to renew the scholarships for up to four years by maintaining a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and by being a student in good standing with the college or university.

Scholarships are awarded to children of Farm Bureau members who plan to or currently attend an accredited college, university or community college to earn two or four-year degrees.

First-time applicants were asked to write an essay indicating the contributions they expect to make to agriculture and the rural community.  They also were selected based on their academic achievement, financial need, community and extracurricular involvement and letters of recommendation.
