UPDATE: Candidates Announced For Area School Board Seats

Northwest Iowa — Candidates for local school boards in the KIWA listening area had until yesterday (Thursday) afternoon to file nomination papers to get their names on the ballot.  The nomination papers were to be returned to the school district office by yesterday, and the school districts have the day today in which to deliver them to the Auditor in their respective counties.

There are two seats up for election this year on the Sheldon School Board.  In District 1, incumbent Susan Rensink is seeking reelection, and is the only candidate to file papers for that seat.  For the At-Large seat, Lori Richards of Sheldon is the lone candidate. Incumbent Randy Merley had elected to not seek reelection.  In the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn District Andrew Schierholz is running unopposed for Director District 2, with no candidates filing papers for Director District 3.  For Director District 5, incumbent Scott Vollink is the only candidate to turn in nomination papers.  For the South O’Brien School Board, DJ Weber is running for Director District 1, with no candidates turning in papers for Director District 3.  Incumbent Gina Paulsen was the only candidate to file for the Director District 6 position.

In Osceola County, there are three seats up for election on the Sibley-Ocheyedan School Board.  In District 1, Tasha Bos has filed papers to run.  In District 3, Jamie Arend is seeking that seat.  In District 4, Greg Atherton has filed papers to run.

School Board races in Lyon County are shaping up this way:  Central Lyon has two At-Large positions up for election.  Incumbents Scott Postma, and Keri Davis are the only two to file nomination papers for those seats.  In the George-Little Rock District, incumbent Wade Netten is the only candidate to file for the District 2 seat that Netten curently holds.  Kristi Landis is the lone candidate to file papers to run for the GLR District 3 seat.  In the West Lyon Community School District, a race is shaping up for the District 1 seat.  Incumbent Troy Bauder, and Vince Smith have both filed papers seeking that position.  There is also a race in the West Lyon District 2.  Jennifer Jenson and Mark D. Timmerman have both filed nomination papers seeking that District 2 seat.  In West Lyon District 3, incumbent Scott Lee is the only candidate to file papers for that seat.

Looking at the candidates in Sioux County, in the Boyden-Hull District the incumbents for Districts 1, 2 and 3 are all seeking reelection, and all running unopposed.  In the MOC-Floyd Valley District, incumbent Gerald Van Roekel is not seeking reelection to his District 3 seat.  Hermencgildo Reyes Rodriguez filed papers to run for that seat.  In MOC-Floyd Valley District 5, incumbent Christin Koerselman is seeking reelection.  Steve Loshman is running for reelection in MOC-Floyd Valley District IV, and incumbent Larry Hoekstra is seeking reelection is District VII.  In the Rock Valley Community School District, There are three At-Large candidates seeking the three At-Large seats.  Shelli Rens, incumbent Steven Van Den Top, and Terry K. Van Maanen, who is also an incumbent.  Sioux Center voters will decide from four people who have filed to fill the three At-Large seats available.  Jerod Work is the only incumbent seeking reelection, and is joined in that field by LoriAnne Andersen, Nathan Bullock, and Joshua C. Tacke.  In the West Sioux Community School District, Russell Coons is seeking relection to the District 1 seat.  There will be no name on the ballot for the West Sioux District 2 seat, incumbent Gary Witt did not file for reelection, nor did anyone else.  West Sioux District 4, incumbent Tom Sellers is seeking reelection.  West Sioux voters will also decide the fate of a Physical Plant and Equipment Levy. Candidates on the ballot for Northwest Iowa Community College Board members are incumbents Cynthia Porter, Steve Loshman, and Larry Hoekstra.

Sheldon, Iowa — Candidates for local school boards in the KIWA listening area had until yesterday (Thursday) afternoon to file nomination papers to get their names on the ballot.  The nomination papers were to be returned to the school district office by yesterday, and the school districts have the day to day in which to deliver them to the Auditor in their respective counties.

In the Sheldon Community School District there are two people who have filed their paperwork for the two seats up for grabs in this falls election, according to School Board Secretary LaDonn Hartzell.  In District 1, incumbent Susan Rensink will seek reelection, while Lori Richards of Sheldon filed papers for the At-Large position.

Randy Merley currently holds the At-Large seat on the Sheldon School Board, but he is not seeking reelection.
