Orange City, Iowa — One Orange City teacher is starting his 55th year in secondary education.
We talked to Mr. Henry Kramer, who is originally from Orange City. He says he has taught math, science, and Bible courses as well as serving as a school administrator.
Kramer tells us about his family.
He also has several grandchildren, some of which are involved in education as well. Kramer says he also has taught at Dordt College in Sioux Center.
Kramer says he also helps out the Northwest Iowa Christian School Tuition Organization (NICSTO), which receives voluntary cash contributions from Iowa taxpayers and allocates those funds in tuition grants to Iowa school children, who in turn, use those grants to attend one of the schools represented by NICSTO.
He says the biggest change that has come in teaching mathematics is technology.
He says the most important thing that he has taught students is character. He says it’s important for students to know how to do their work and do it well. Excellence is important, as is a servant attitude. He says calculus also explains the usefulness and the design of God’s creation.
Kramer says he still has health and energy and while that continues, he can’t think of anything he’d rather do than teach students.
