Veterans Day Programs Planned On Days Leading Up To November 11th

Northwest Iowa — With Veterans Day falling on a Saturday this year, many Veterans day programs will actually be on other days.

There will be a Veterans Day program at Sheldon High School on Friday, November 10 from 1:25-1:55 p.m. in the auditorium. There will be a slide show, the high school band will perform and Brett Elgersma will be speaking. The community is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served in the commons for the community following the program.

The Sibley and Ashton Veterans Day program will be at the Sibley/Ocheyedan High School in Sibley at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10th. There will be a speaker, and choir students will provide music. The public is invited, and there will be refreshments afterward.

The Rock Rapids Veterans Day Programs will take place on Thursday, November 9th, and Saturday, November 11th. The program on Thursday will be at the Central Lyon High School at 10:30 a.m. and will feature Aaron Van Beek from Midwest Honor Flight. The program is being organized by Mrs. Heather Grafing and the Central Lyon Fifth Grade. Then, on Saturday, November 11th, there will be a short program with a “21-gun” salute at West Side Park in Rock Rapids at the Veterans Memorial. It will start at 10:45, with the gun salute at 11:00.

The Pressman-Kosters Post 329 American Legion of Orange City will host a program at 2:00 p.m. on November 11th at the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City for the residents of Landsmeer Ridge.

The George Veterans Day Program will be on Thursday, November 9th at the George Little Rock High School at 10:00 a.m. The G-LR Band and Choir will perform. A color guard will post the colors, taps will be played, tributes will be given, and more. Everyone is welcome.

The Rock Valley Veterans Day Program will be at the Rock Valley Community School on Friday, November 10th, at 10:30 a.m. All grade levels will sing some songs and some will do other musical numbers. Pippa White, a professional storyteller will do the program. A military family will do the pledge. Art and talented and gifted students will do artwork and placemats at the veterans’ and spouses’ dinner after the program. Veterans’ families are invited to the dinner. A color guard will start the program. The Star Spangled Banner will be sung, and the 5th graders will do a reading including veteran facts.

The Sioux Center Community School District will be holding its annual Veterans Day program on Thursday, November 9th, at the Sioux Center High School Gym. All veterans, veteran family members, and community members are invited to attend. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. Doors open at 10:00 a.m. The program will last approximately thirty minutes. There will be a brief American Legion Website presentation, music by SCHS choir students, a community veteran guest speaker (10 minute speech), auxiliary presentation of a blanket to a veteran, refreshments, and treats following the program for veterans and community members.

The Boyden American Legion Veteran’s Day Program will be Saturday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Demco Center in Boyden. The Honorary speakers will be Elaine Leusink, Gold Star Mother from Sioux Center, and Ronald Kuyper, Gold Star Family from Rock Valley. Refreshments will be served. Everyone is invited to attend.

Sioux County Veterans and their spouses are also invited to the Terrace View Event Center on Friday, November 10th from 7:30 am to 10 am for an appreciation breakfast. Veterans and their wives eat for free. At the event, they can register to win prizes like a grand prize quilt or a telescoping flag pole with a flag. Meanwhile, Hy-Vee will honor Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 10, by offering all veterans and active-duty military members a free breakfast. A buffet-style breakfast will be offered from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Hy-Vee stores. Additionally, veterans and active-duty military will receive 15% off their grocery purchases on Friday, Nov. 10 when they shop at Hy-Vee, Dollar Fresh Market and Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh locations.
