Village Northwest Unlimited Offers Housing As Employment Incentive

Sheldon, Iowa — The low unemployment rate in northwest Iowa is great for workers — it’s easy to find a job or a career. The problem is, sometimes businesses can’t attract the workers they need. One Sheldon facility has found a somewhat unique way to hopefully help them attract candidates for employment.

According to Village Northwest Unlimited’s Director of Human Resources, Brian Robyn, they have something that candidates may need.

Robyn says that it’s not for everybody. You would be living in a house with two or three other people of the same gender, with private bedrooms. He says it’s not for people with children or pets, and it’s for singles only. Robyn says it’s also only for people that happen to fit the criteria and are willing to live there — he says they’re not giving out housing allowances.

He tells us about the value of the offer.

Robyn tells us what education and experience is required for the connected Direct Support Professional position.

According to Robyn, there are many opportunities for advancement for those who take the position, and they’ll even help you with education.
