Sheldon, Iowa — Instead of being in June, the annual Village Northwest Unlimited Run, Walk, and Roll will be in September this year.
The Village’s Barry Whitsell tells us more.
(as said) “Our Run, Walk, and Roll was going to be held on June 5th. It’s always the first Saturday of each June, however, with everything related to COVID and the pandemic we’ve decided to reschedule the event until September 25 and we think by holding it in the fall… our primary goal is of course the safety and well-being of the residents here at the Village. And we just felt that with everything going on with COVID and people just starting to get vaccinated the positivity rate coming down in the county that we would be better served to be safe and hold the event in September and allow things to kind of stabilize here if you will related to COVID.”
Whitsell says that’s the main thing, but there was another reason that a later timeframe will work out better this year.
(as said) “Along North 18th Avenue here at the entrance to the Village, the city of Sheldon’s going to be doing some construction. And so that was going to affect our ability to host and run the Run, Walk, and Roll as well. So those two factors COVID.. the pandemic.. and then construction along North 18th Avenue. We just thought it was best to reschedule the event to the fall of this year.”
Whitsell says they are slowly beginning to re-open the Village to visitors. He says when we last held the event in 2019, they had 600 participants, which he says is a great turnout and they hope to have such a large turnout this year.
