Walleye Season Opens This Weekend

Northwest Iowa — Winter lasted way too long this year, and Mother Nature even seemed to be teasing us with brief glimpses of spring from time to time. Now, spring is actually here, and it has arrived just in time for one of the area’s largest spring events.

This weekend marks the opener of Walleye Season at the Iowa Great Lakes. Mike Hawkins is a Conservation Officer with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and he tells us about opening weekend.

In addition to the season opening this weekend, Hawkins says it’s also Iowa Great Lakes Chamber’s “Great Walleye Weekend.”

He says this weekend will be a good opprtunity to get out and have some fun.

We asked Hawkins to predict how fishing would be this weekend.

The Great Walleye Weekend contest will feature a $36-thousand prize for catching one of the tagged walleye, with other prizes available, as well. If you’d like more information about the Great Walleye Weekend, or to register, visit the Iowa Great Lakes Chamber’s website by CLICKING HERE.
