There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms today, mainly for areas west of the James River and east of I-29 this afternoon. An isolated severe storm will be possible in south central South Dakota. Storm chances increase and become more widespread this evening and tonight, however severe weather is not expected after midnight. Scattered storms will be possible Friday and again on Sunday. Look for a warming trend in temperatures through the weekend.
Isolated severe thunderstorms will be possible from around 4 pm to 11 pm, mainly for south central South Dakota to the west of the James River. The greatest threat will be large hail up to 2 inches in diameter, frequent lightning, and wind gusts up to 60 mph. An isolated tornado will also be possible, mainly before 8 pm.
