Statewide Iowa — The number of initial unemployment claims in Iowa, filed between Sunday, September 13th, and Saturday, September 19th was 6,601. There were 5,912 initial claims by individuals who work and live in Iowa, this is opposed to last week’s number of 4,462 so an increase of 1,450 was seen in claims. There were 689 claims by individuals who work in Iowa and live in another state, which is another increase from last week’s 500 claims. The number of continuing weekly unemployment claims for Sept.13-19 was 63,291, a decrease of 2,131 from the previous week.
Unemployment insurance benefit payments totaled $17,761,637.89 for the week of Sept. 13-19. The following industries had the most claims: Manufacturing (1,483), Construction (1,043), Industry Not Available – Self-employed, Independent Contractors, etc (970), Health Care & Social Assistance (440), Accommodation & Food Services (416).
