Northwest Iowa — Last week, Republican Skyler Wheeler, the person representing District 4 in the Iowa House, announced he’ll be seeking re-election to the newly formed District 3 seat. But he’ll be challenged for that seat by fellow Republican Dr. Tom Jeneary of Le Mars, who currently represents the 5th legislative district in the Iowa House.
The two were thrown into the same district, House District 3, by redistricting which was done to account for population shifts revealed in last year’s Census. The newly formed district 3 consists of the southern half of Sioux County, including a portion of the city of Sheldon, along with the northern half of Plymouth County, pitting the Orange City Republican against the Le Mars Republican in the primary election on June 7th of next year.
In his announcement to seek re-election, Dr. Jeneary says he believes his work as a legislator is not yet complete. He says that, after having been a business owner and dentist for more than 35 years, there is still much yet to be accomplished and he wants to assist with providing greater healthcare, and grow business opportunities for Iowans.
Jeneary continued by saying, “We must protect our unborn children, preserve our individual freedoms, and lower taxes. We don’t need any more governmental intervention in our lives.”
Dr. Jeneary was appointed to the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners by former Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, and served six years. He is a member of Triangle Masonic Lodge 643, the Scottish Rite and York Rite Masonic bodies. He is also a past president of the Plymouth County Pheasants Forever chapter, and is heavily involved with the Iowa SIDS Foundation and “Walk for the Future.”
Jeneary announced his candidacy in a Sunday afternoon press release.
