Des Moines, Iowa — Another northwest Iowan is announcing that he has filed papers to be a candidate for state office.
District 4 Republican State Representative Skyler Wheeler of Orange City says he has filed his papers for a fourth term to the Iowa House. Wheeler was first elected to the Iowa House in 2016 as the youngest member of the Legislature and says he has been instrumental in moving conservative legislation through the chamber while Republicans continue to hold a strong majority.
Due to redistricting, if he had stayed in Orange City, Wheeler would have to have faced fellow Republican Representative Tom Jeneary of Le Mars in the June Primary. Instead, Wheeler says he is going to move his family from Orange City to Sioux Center, which will allow him to run in the newly-formed Iowa House District 4, which includes about the northern half of Sioux County, including all of Sioux Center, the part of Sheldon that lies in Sioux County, and all of Lyon County. There were no incumbents in the House living in the new district.
Wheeler says he is honored to represent so many great people in Northwest Iowa. He says that having the opportunity to be a strong voice in Des Moines for the people of Northwest Iowa is an honor. He says, “Northwest Iowa is full of strong, conservative patriots and they deserve a legislator that fits that mold. I look forward to continuing to be that legislator for the folks of the newly created House District 4.”
Wheeler serves on the Judiciary, Local Government, and Ways & Means Committees, and the Justice Systems Appropriations Budget Subcommittee. He is the Vice-Chairman of the House Education Committee.
