Winterfeld Trial WILL Remain In Orange City

Orange City, Iowa — A Spirit Lake man who was granted a new trial following his conviction in Sioux County District Court for 2nd Degree Murder, has had his motion for a Change of Venue denied.

Gregg Winterfeld had requested that his trial be moved from Orange City due to media coverage surrounding his first trial and the decision to grant him a new trial. The judge in the case ruled, however, that he had seen no evidence that would indicate Winterfeld wouldn’t receive a fair trial in Sioux County. The judge issued his ruling on Friday.

The ruling clears the way for Winterfeld to be retried for 2nd Degree Murder in Sioux County District Court in Orange City for the shooting death of Grant Wilson, of Cleghorn, at a rural Ireton farmhouse.

A Sioux County jury convicted Winterfeld of the crime in August of this year, but that conviction was overturned on appeal.
