Northwest Iowa — What was with the military fighter jets spotted north of Sheldon Wednesday evening? That’s a good question.
KIWA has received listener reports of a group of at least three low-flying military jets flying in formation, low and loud, north of Sheldon about 8:00 Wednesday evening. Witnesses report the planes appeared to be headed in the direction of Sioux Falls.
KIWA reached out to the South Dakota Air National Guard, which is housed at Joe Foss Field in Sioux Falls, but as of mid-afternoon Thursday, had received no response.
Coincidentally, KGRG-TV in Cedar Rapids reports a single military fighter jet flying low and loud over Cedar Rapids Wednesday evening, as well.
While Wednesday evening’s spectacle was most likely a training mission, until we hear from military officials, we’ll never know for sure.
