Hartley, Iowa — Work on a bridge on Highway 18 near Hartley continues on pace to be done on time, or maybe a little early — that from a DOT employee.
According to Iowa Department of Transportation Planner Dakin Schultz, contractors continue to work on the project.
(as said:) “It’s the bridge replacement project on US 18 over Waterman Creek, which is just west of Hartley. The contractor has been making good progress on that project and we were originally looking at completion in October, but if the weather holds out and the progress continues, they’re thinking maybe it’ll be September with completion.”
Schultz says the fatal accident and fire in the construction zone this week caused very little delay to the project. But he advises motorists to use caution, especially around construction zones.
He gives us an update on another project — this one on Highway 59 near the Minnesota border, north of Allendorf.
(as said:) “That has caused US 59 to be on detour. It’s the culvert replacement or reinforced concrete box replacement. That project is underway currently. That one we have as a completion on October 1st. And right now we are currently on schedule for that as well. We actually think it might be ahead of schedule a little bit and that’s dependent on weather and contractor progress. So things are going well.”
Schultz also tells us that the Highway 9 project — resurfacing the highway between Larchwood and Rock Rapids is almost done, with just some cleanup work to finish.
