We have plenty of social media services, so let’s be glad that these are no longer around:
- Launched in 2013, Vine was a platform for creating six-second looped videos. It was discontinued in 2016, because Twitter – its parent company – decided to cut costs and focus on it core products.
- Once the largest social networking site, Myspace rebranded in 2011, pivoting to focus on music and entertainment.
- Launched in 2011, Google+ was Google’s attempt at a social networking platform. It was shut down for consumers in April 2019 due to low usage.
- Clubhouse launched in 2019 as an audio-based social media app. It’s still around, but in April 2023 the company announced a 50 percent reduction in its staff.
