It’s National Chocolate Pudding Day!
Chocolate pudding comes in two main types. The first is cooked and chilled with a soft creamy texture similar to custard. Popular in the U.S., Canada, Germany and parts of Asia.
The second is baked, or steamed. The pudding then becomes denser and cake-like, commonly enjoyed in the U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The steamed version is made with flour, sugar, eggs, vanilla and cocoa, or chocolate. It is often steamed with boiling water poured over the batter to create a moist, rich dessert texture.
Pudding used to be a savory dish in medieval Europe, sometimes made with meat, grains and spices. Sweet puddings emerged in the 17th century.
