Knowledge Nugget:
Today is election day! Everybody who is legally able to vote is encouraged to vote if they haven’t already. Who you vote for is up to you… just go vote! Election day has changed extensively in the past 200 years. 200 years ago, not only were eating, drinking, and parading common, but votes could be cast by public voice vote. Also, political parties would hand out pre-printed ballots for voters to cast, to ensure that people voted for a party ticket. It wasn’t until the 1890s, which was post-Civil War, post-Emancipation Proclamation, and post-Lincoln, that the Australian ballot, also known as the Secret Ballot, became commonly used in the United States.
