IARN — It is a beautiful day here in Boone as we kick off the first day of the Farm Progress Show. The annual event making its first appearance in Iowa since the rain-soaked year of 2018. The pandemic sent the show to the laptops and tablets of the country as we had to hold Iowa’s turn virtually in 2020.
As is the case every year, there are a lot of Ag issues to discuss. Things have been interesting in the corn industry, and in ethanol. As California makes a controversial decision concerning electric vehicles and the ban of sales of gas-fueled vehicles in the state, Midwestern farmers wonder what the future holds for their operations.
St. Ansgar, Iowa farmer Chris Edgington is coming close to the end of his term as President of the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA). He talked with me this morning as the Farm Progress Show was getting going on day one. He talked about the challenges that corn farmers are facing as we get ready to head into harvest. Between weather issues and the possibility of supply issues, it has been a year where producers are having to rise to the challenge.
