IARN — Wyffels Hybrids launched its Serving Those Who Served initiative at last year’s Farm Progress Show. Jill Loehr, Wyffels Hybrids communications manager, says this initiative “goes back to Wyffels Hybrids’ service oriented mindset.”
“We’re proud of Serving Those Who Served, an initiative that benefits Homes For Our Troops,” Loehr says. “Homes For Our Troops is a non-profit organization that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes for severely injured post-9/11 veterans, to enable them rebuild their lives.”
Wyffels Hybrids’ farmer customers and sales representatives, and community members last year helped raise $67,000 as part of the Serving Those Who Served Initiative. The funds will be put towards home builds in the central Corn Belt, similar to one recently completed in Missouri.
“We were excited to be a part of Army Sergeant Nathan Schumaker’s build,” Loehr says. “We were on site as the Schumaker’s were welcomed in their new home. We helped put the finishing touches on the outside with landscaping. The special part about this build is that it was Home for our Troops 300th home build. Even more incredible, we were able to hold the volunteer day on September 11.”
The Serving Those Who Served initiative will continue in 2021, with a few changes designed to increase participation.
“W5086RIB was a good hybrid. It goes across a lot of acres in the central Corn Belt, but didn’t cut all across the Corn Belt. This year, we’re excited to have W4246RIB and W6906RIB as Serving Those Who Served hybrids. A donation from every bag will got to Serving Those Who Served and ultimately, Home for Our Troops. The other thing (is) we’re supporting another build. Marine Staff Sergeant Dominic Fernandez, his home will be completed before the end of 2020. Then in Wisconsin, we are also supporting Marine Lance Corporal “Bobby” McCardle,” Loehr says.
