Supreme Court’s WOTUS ruling a big win for pork producers

IARN — Freedom to operate is top of mind for most pork producers in 2023. Pork producers were dealt a setback in their freedom to operate their farms as they see fit with the Supreme Court’s recent Prop 12 ruling which allows California to decide how hogs are raised in other states.

However, producers also received good news when the Supreme Court in May ruled against the Environmental Protection Agency’s WOTUS rule which defines limits to the EPA’s authority under the Clean Water Act.

Duane Stateler, National Pork Producers Council vice president and an Ohio pork producer, says the decision was good news for hog producers.
