Iowa (RI) — Iowa’s harvest season got off to a slow start because of wet field conditions, but Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig says progress is being made as fields continue to dry out.
Naig says conditions remain challenging and farmers are still dealing with the effects of excessive moisture, but at least fieldwork is moving forward.
Naig says cooler temperatures and frosty conditions are expected to help harvest efforts, though officials continue monitoring crop quality after the unusually wet conditions.
Naig also says propane supplies remain strong heading into the grain-drying and home-heating seasons.
Naig made his comments Thursday night during an appearance in Jewell.
