Assisted Living Resident Gets Chance To Fulfil Dream Of Seeing Nursing School Via NCC

Sheldon, Iowa — Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon had a chance to participate in a program that an area assisted living facility has started.

NCC officials call the “Dare to Dream” program, a “transformative initiative at RiverView Ridge Assisted Living in Rock Valley.”

NCC nursing instructor Nancy Popkes tells us about it.

NCC officials tell us the “uplifting venture,” is led by RiverView Ridge’s RJ Heynen, their Community Relations Coordinator. They say it is designed to fulfill the long-held dreams of its residents. Each month, the program selects at random the name of a participating resident, offering them a unique opportunity to realize a dream they may have set aside. One of the fortunate participants/residents, Marilyn Vander Schaff, had always wanted to go to nursing school.

Popkes tells us what kind of opportunities Vander Schaff was able to experience at NCC.

Popkes tells us how everyone felt to be able to help Vander Schaff experience nursing school.
