Auditor Informs Voters About Absentee Voting

Primghar, Iowa — Voters will soon have their say, electing candidates and approving or denying ballot measures. We’ll be talking with O’Brien County Auditor Rhea Schmalen in the coming days, and she’ll give us some details about the election, absentee voting, and more.

Schmalen tells us absentee voting in person at your county auditor’s office during their business hours continues.

She says they will also be open on Saturday, October 31st, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for in-person absentee voting. Voters can come in and vote that way during the auditor’s office open hours until Monday, November 2nd, which is the day before the election.

However, if you were planning on absentee voting by mail, your time is nearly up for that option.

After Monday, the only way you’ll be able to absentee vote is to go to the Auditor’s Office and vote in person. She says you also cannot go to their office and expect to take a ballot home and return it. She says while they can mail one out — before the deadline — you cannot walk out with one.
