Inwood, Iowa — A bridge fire has law enforcement officers trying to find out more about people doing “burnouts” in their vehicles.
The bridge, located about three miles southeast of Inwood, was totally destroyed in a fire that was reported early on Thursday morning.
According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, at about 5:15 a.m., they received a report of a bridge on fire on 250th Street between Dipper and Dogwood avenues.
The Inwood Fire Department, Inwood Rescue Squad, the Sheriff’s Office, and the County Roads Department were called and responded.
When they got there, the bridge had been burned beyond repair.
As a result of the destruction of the bridge, the Sheriff’s Office says 250th Street between Dipper and Dogwood avenues will be closed for the foreseeable future. Barricades will be placed notifying of the closure.
Sheriff’s officials tell us their investigation showed that there are indications on nearby bridges of a vehicle or vehicles doing “burnouts’ recently. The Sheriff’s Office asks that those responsible for these “burnouts” or anyone with inforrnation regarding other suspicious activity contact the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at (712) 472-8300.
