Dangerously Cold Temps Through Tuesday

Northwest Iowa — Wind chills as low as 25 below to 35 below zero are expected into Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service says people should take necessary precautions to protect themselves and others, including outdoor pets, from the dangerously cold wind chills.

Officials say that with conditions like that, it’s important to take some precautions if you’re going to be traveling. Make sure your vehicle has a full tank of gas and is in good running condition. They also recommend having some additional blankets and a winter survival kit in the event of a breakdown.

They say you should dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.

Weather Service officials suggest you make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

Warmer air will move into the region Tuesday into Wednesday, when there’s also a chance of snow. Highs on Tuesday are forecast in the teens, with highs near 30 on Wednesday.
