Dordt University Mourns Passing of Advancement Leader

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Dordt University community is grieving the loss of John Baas, former Vice President for Advancement, who passed away yesterday (Monday) at the age 64 after seven and a half months of battling leukemia.

Dordt officials tell us Baas served Dordt for 20 years, leading transformative fundraising efforts that brought in over $195 million, tripled annual contributions, and added more than 550 scholarships. They say his leadership spearheaded the landmark “Planting for the Future” campaign, which raised more than $103 million dollars. Colleagues remembered Baas for his contagious optimism, deep faith, and unwavering commitment to Christian education. President Erik Hoekstra and others praised his vision and kingdom-centered service. Baas is survived by his wife Beth and their four children.
