Drought Conditions Improve In Iowa Over The Last Week

Lincoln, Nebraska — The latest Iowa Drought Monitor report from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, shows considerable improvement in the state.

According to the map released Thursday, nearly 28 percent of Iowa has no drought designation — close to double the amount from the previous week.

Approximately 13 percent of the state has moderate drought, down from over 29 percent last week.

Moderate drought is still showing up in northwest Iowa, with almost all of Sioux and O’Brien counties being under that designation, in addition to a very small part of Lyon County, a little of Clay and Woodbury counties, and most of Plymouth County.

Other northwest Iowa counties are at least abnormally dry.

In Sheldon, in the last week, 41 hundredths of an inch of rain has fallen, with the bulk of that coming on Thursday, when we recorded 35 hundredths. There are chances for rain this Saturday night through Monday night in the Sheldon area.
