Northwest Iowa — All that rain over Christmas weekend? That’s the result of El Niño.
And the National Climate Prediction Center says it could be the strongest El Niño in 70 years. National Weather Service Meteorologist Jeff Zogg says that typically increases the odds for a warmer, wetter winter in Iowa.
Zogg says that can have its drawbacks as well.
Here in northwest Iowa, we appear to be in a precip pattern until at least this Wednesday night, but then the chance for precip leaves the forecast, and the 6-to-10-day forecast actually calls for below normal precipitation. (Courtesy fellow Community First Broadcasting station KUOO in Spirit Lake)
