Elderly Clay County Man Rescued in Sub-Zero Weather

Clay County, Iowa – An elderly Clay County man was located following an exhaustive search late Sunday evening.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the unidentified man walked out of his home Sunday evening, and no one was able to locate him.

Clay County deputies responded to the 10:15 pm report and due to the cold weather, additional help was requested. Authorities say officers of the Spencer Police Department, Spencer firefighters, Dickens firefighters and the Spencer Ambulance Crew all aided in the search.

Searchers utilized side-by-sides, a drone, and thermal imagers in their search for the unnamed individual. After about two-and-a-half hours in sub-zero temperatures, the subject was located, uninjured, about two miles from his home and taken to the hospital for observation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Officials are thanking the Clay County Communications Center, assisting agencies, and the volunteers who assisted in the search.
