(KIWA Staff Photo)Sioux City, Iowa (RI) — Family members of Terri McCauley of Sioux City say they hope prosecutors pursue another trial after a jury was unable to reach a verdict in the case of a man accused of killing her more than 40 years ago.
63-year-old Thomas Popp was arrested last year in Washington state and charged with first-degree murder in McCauley’s 1983 death. Her nephew, Joshua Taylor, says he’s hopeful Woodbury County Attorney James Loomis will pursue a retrial.
McCauley was 18 when she was murdered. Taylor says the family has waited decades for justice.
Jurors told the judge Monday afternoon they were deadlocked, and the judge declared a mistrial. The County Attorney now has 90 days to decide whether to retry Popp.
