Fire Near Ashton Destroys Trailer, Trees

Ashton, Iowa — A trailer and some trees were destroyed in a fire on Saturday, April 6, 2024, near Ashton.

According to Ashton Fire Chief Andy Gacke, at about 4:10 p.m., the Ashton Fire Department was called to the report of a grove fire at 4920 240th Street, about a mile west of the south side of Ashton.

The chief says the fire department saw the grove and a nearby trailer on fire as they approached the scene. He says they used lots of water to put it out as the grove was pretty good-sized and high winds were an issue.

Gacke says no injuries were reported.

He says a burning pile had rekindled in the wind and caused the fire.

Chief Gacke reports that the trailer was totaled and there was damage to the grass and trees.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
