Doon, Iowa — A shed and its contents were damaged in a fire on Saturday, January 24, 2026, near Doon.
According to Doon Fire Chief Adam Van Engen, at about 6:00 p.m., the Doon Fire Department was called to the report of a shed on fire at 3110 230th Street, three miles east of Doon, two north on Highway 75, and a little east on 230th Street.
When they got there, the chief says they found the owner had used a fire extinguisher and buckets of water to extinguish a UTV that had been the source of the fire. But while he was able to get in, firefighters had to force open the overhead doors to gain access to the machinery inside. He says they removed steel from the side of the building to put out hot spots in the attic. The ceiling and attic received structural damage and major smoke damage. The equipment inside received major damage due to heat and smoke as well. He says the property owner is working with the insurance company to come up with an estimate on the loss.
Van Engen says no injuries were reported.
The Alvord Fire Department assisted the Doon firefighters.
He says the fire was caused by the UTV, which had been put away hot.
Chief Van Engen reports that the damage was significant, but the building was not totaled in the blaze.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
