Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon firefighters were called out on Friday afternoon to the report of a field fire.
Sheldon Fire Chief Brad Hindt reports that the page went out a few minutes before 2:20 p.m. to a location about four miles south of Sheldon on the county line road, or about two miles east and three north of Hospers, at 370th Street and McKinley Avenue.
He says about 50 acres burned, due to a burn pile fanned by strong winds from the northwest. He tells us Hospers and Granville firefighters were also paged to the fire at about the same time. He tells us a couple of farmers with tractors and discs were also able to help with the firefighting effort.
Hindt says firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.
