Iowa (RI) — The first of four televised debates between Iowa’s gubernatorial candidates is scheduled for Tuesday night.

The debate, hosted by KWQC-TV in the Quad Cities, kicks off the final month of campaigning before the Nov. 3rd general election.

Both candidates have spent months traveling Iowa and meeting directly with voters. Democrat Rob Sand has held a town hall in each of Iowa’s 99 counties and last week drew about 1,800 people to his 100th town hall of the year in West Des Moines. Sand says addressing Iowa’s challenges will require bipartisan cooperation.

Republican Zach Lahn’s campaign website shows he has 15 counties remaining on his own 99-county tour. Lahn spoke to a crowd of about 300 people in Grimes last Wednesday.

Lahn says Iowa is one of the nation’s most affordable states and a top place to retire, though he argues there is still room for improvement.

He has also criticized the influence of special interests, large corperations, and lobbyists in government, saying is campaign is focused on putting Iowa first.

Election Day is 28 days away.
