Iowa (RI) — Iowans hoping to keep flowers and other outdoor plants alive a little longer will need to protect them Friday night as freezing temperatures move into the state.
A Freeze Warning has been issued for 80 Iowa counties for early Saturday morning. Another 13 counties in western Iowa are under a Freeze Watch, while six counties in southeast Iowa are under a Frost Advisory.
National Weather Service meteorologist Tyler Ryan says temperatures are expected to drop into the low 30s across much of the state, with some northern Iowa locations possibly falling into the upper 20s.
Ryan says the cold spell is expected to be brief, with warmer weather arriving by the end of the weekend.
In addition to covering sensitive plants, homeowners are encouraged to protect outdoor plumbing by disconnecting garden hoses and wrapping a dry towel around any outside faucets.
