(KIWA Staff Photo)Iowa (RI) — A meteorologist with Iowa State University Extension says Iowans should expect clouds and rain through Sunday morning, with a brief break Monday before storms return Tuesday afternoon.
Madelynn Wuestenburg says the statewide average rainfall total for September is already at about six inches.
Wuestenberg says Iowa is experiencing a stagnant weather pattern influenced by warm conditions in the Pacific Ocean that have been producing tropical storms and hurricanes.
Wuestenburg says the current forecast calls for at least another inch-and-a-half of rain statewide over the next week, with some areas of western Iowa potentially receiving between four or five inches of additional rainfall.
