Orange City, Iowa — A pole barn and the hay inside were destroyed in a fire on Thursday, September 4, 2025, near Orange City.
According to Orange City Fire Chief Dan Roghair, at about 7:05 p.m., the Orange City Fire Department was called to the report of hay on fire in a building at 3282 450th Street, about three miles east of Orange City on Highway 10.
When they got there, firefighters say they found the hay fully engulfed in flame.
Roghair says no injuries were reported.
The fire department was assisted by the Alton Fire Department per their auto-aid agreement. They also requested and received tankers and manpower from the Sioux Center and Maurice fire departments.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined. He says the roughly 40′ by 80′ building and its contents, which also included a small amount of equipment, were a total loss.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
