Gas Leak At Sheldon Pizza Ranch Causes Evacuation Monday Night

Sheldon, Iowa — Some tense moments Monday night at the Sheldon Pizza Ranch.

The call went out for a strong gas odor coming from the kitchen area at around 8:00 p.m. Firefighters and EMTs responded to the Pizza Ranch on Sheldon’s east side.

Fire Chief Brad Hindt says everyone had been evacuated from the building by the time they got there. He says they used their gas detection equipment, but were not able to get a reading. They looked everything over, and MidAmerican Energy was called. He says firefighters ventilated the building and blocked anyone from entering the building or the parking lot.

He says MidAmerican technicians used their equipment and were able to pinpoint the leak to a regulator that had malfunctioned.

Hindt says emergency responders were there for about an hour.

Pizza Ranch personnel say repairs were made on Tuesday morning, and they were open for business regular hours on Tuesday.
