Sioux City, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — Republican gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn and Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird say President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to Sioux City could help energize voters ahead of the Nov. 3rd election.

Trump is scheduled to campaign in Sioux City on Oct. 22nd. In separate interviews, both candidates emphasized the importance of voter turnout in northwest Iowa.

A Hometown Visit for Lahn

For Lahn, the event will also bring him back to his hometown. He said he planned to attend, although his role at the event had not yet been determined.

Lahn said he views the visit as recognition of Iowa’s importance and an opportunity to increase voter engagement as early voting continues across Iowa.

Bird similarly said she believes Trump’s appearance will help motivate Republican voters and highlighted the role of the attorney general’s office in public safety and victim advocacy.

Northwest Iowa’s Role in Statewide Races

Both candidates pointed to northwest Iowa as an important source of Republican support.

Lahn cited the region’s contribution to Gov. Kim Reynolds’ 2018 victory and said strong turnout will again be important in statewide races.

Lahn described the election as a decision about Iowa’s future and encouraged supporters to help bring less-engaged voters to the polls.

Bird said northwest Iowa turnout will be especially important to her reelection campaign.

Lahn faces Democrat Rob Sand in the governor’s race, while Bird faces Democrat Nate Willems in the race for attorney general.
