Heightened Chance For Severe Weather On Monday

Northwest Iowa — According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, they’ve issued something for northwest Iowa that they very rarely do. They’ve issued a prediction of a 30 percent chance of severe weather for a large portion of Iowa for Monday. And this basically unprecedented action was done already on Wednesday, and at last report was still active for Monday

The prediction covers almost the entire state of Iowa, with the exception of most of Lyon and Sioux counties and portions of Plymouth and Woodbury counties — where the prediction is half as certain — with an only 15 percent chance.

We talked to meteorologist Matthew Dux with the Sioux Falls office of the National Weather Service.

He says while there is a significant chance of severe weather, he downplays it a little, saying a lot could change between now and then.

He tells us what to expect for weekend weather.

Dux says just stay aware for severe weather, and make your plans now, should severe weather threaten the area on Monday. Know where you would go for shelter from a tornado or severe thunderstorm and what you would do, depending when the threat would occur on Monday.
